Governance In The News

Florida has a new Governor. His name is Charlie Crist. His leadership philosophy and approach are reflected in a speech he made at the Tiger Bay Club January 24, 2007 in Tallahassee, FL.

He spoke of his deep regard for the people and for the role of public service … the importance of “serving with a servant’s heart”. “We need to honor the people of Florida”. He spoke of deeply held values, and identified himself as an optimist. “I was raised to do what’s right” and, for Florida’s future he expressed, “if we do right and continue to do right, there’s no limit to what we can do”.

He spoke of hiring members of his team based on talent and qualities, rather than political party; and added “there is a new bi-partisanship in Florida that ought to serve as a model for Washington and the nation”.

He spoke of a strong commitment to open government and ethics. And he spoke of empowering people in the decision processes affecting the public. “I ran (for office) as the people’s governor and I meant it.” “I know you’re my boss (the public) and I’ll never forget it”.

Governor Crist will be a future guest  in the Leadership Spotlight series.
